Loch Leven Lakes is a classic Sierra foothills hike, the kind that reminds you why steady effort and patience matter. The trail climbs consistently through forest and granite before opening up to a chain of clear alpine lakes that feel earned the moment you arrive.
This is one of those hikes where the journey and the destination both do their job.
No workouts planned… yet. 😉
Just movement, mountain air, and time to unplug.
Event Overview
The Loch Leven Lakes trail is known for its consistent incline, shaded sections, and big payoff at the lakes. Once we reach the water, we’ll slow things down - rest, explore, snack, and take in the views before heading back together.
We’ll hike at a conversational pace with breaks as needed. This is not a race, it’s an experience.
What to Bring
To stay comfortable and prepared on trail, we recommend bringing:
Comfortable hiking or trail shoes with good traction
Water (2–3 liters recommended)
Snacks or a light trail lunch
Sun protection (hat and sunscreen)
Light layers (mountain weather can change quickly)
Personal first-aid or blister care
Trekking poles (optional, helpful on the climb)
A leash if bringing a dog
Good to Know
The climb is steady but manageable with pacing
Granite sections can be uneven - watch footing
Afternoon sun exposure is possible near the lakes
Trail etiquette and leaving no trace are always expected
