Sunrise @ Maggie’s Peak - 2026 Unplugged Adventures
An alpine summit.
A quiet climb in the dark.
And a sunrise over Lake Tahoe.
Event Details
Trail: Bayview Trailhead → Maggie’s Peak
Distance: 4.2 miles (out & back)
Difficulty: Hard
Elevation Gain: 1,700+ feet
Estimated Time: 4–5 hours total
Terrain: Rocky, uneven trail with exposed summit sections
Dogs: Welcome on leash
Important Note: This is a pre-dawn start. We will hike up in complete darkness and arrive before sunrise
(Exact date, time, and meetup location can be found on the event flyer.)
This is one of our most intentional adventures of the year.
We’ll begin hiking well before sunrise, moving quietly and deliberately through the dark. The climb is steep and steady, and visibility will be limited on the way up. Once we reach the summit, we’ll settle in and wait, watching the sky change as the sun rises over Lake Tahoe.
This is less about the hike itself and more about the moment you earn at the top.
No workouts planned… yet. 😉
Just effort, stillness, and perspective.
Event Overview
Maggie’s Peak is known for its short but demanding climb and its sweeping views over Emerald Bay and Lake Tahoe. The trail gains elevation quickly, with rocky footing and exposed sections near the summit.
We’ll hike as a group, take our time, and prioritize safety on the ascent. At the top, we’ll sit, layer up, and give ourselves space to take in the sunrise together before heading back down in daylight.
What to Bring
Because this is a cold, pre-dawn summit hike, preparation is critical. Please bring:
Sturdy hiking or trail shoes with good traction
Headlamp or flashlight (required)
Extra batteries or fully charged device
Warm layers (multiple) - beanie, gloves, insulated jacket
Blanket or small sleeping bag for sitting at the summit
Water (insulated bottle recommended)
Snacks or a light breakfast
Personal first-aid or blister care
A small backpack to carry layers and gear
A leash if bringing a dog
It will be cold and windy at the top. Packing extra warmth is strongly encouraged.
Good to Know
The ascent is done entirely in the dark. Comfort with night hiking is important
Rocky terrain requires focus and good footing
We’ll spend time sitting still at the summit, which increases exposure to cold
This is a shared effort. Staying together and communicating matters
